FAQs

Still have questions? Here are some of the questions we hear most often.

Is there a fee for emergency roof tarping?

The roof inspection is free, but emergency tarping may have a separate fee depending on the size of the area, roof accessibility, materials needed, and urgency of the service. Tarping typically ranges from $100–$250, and if you move forward with a roof replacement through Exterior Techs, that cost can be credited toward your project. If tarping is recommended, we’ll explain the cost upfront before any work is performed.

How long does a roof inspection take?

Most roof inspections take less than 30 minutes, depending on the size, slope, accessibility, and overall condition of your roof. Afterward, we’ll walk you through what we found and answer your questions.

Do I need to be home for the roof inspection?

You do not need to be home for the roof inspection, but it is recommended when possible. If you are not available, Exterior Techs can still inspect the exterior of your roof and call you afterward to explain what we found. If you are dealing with an active leak, it may be best for someone to be home so we can access the interior, inspect the affected area, and better understand where the water may be coming from.

How often should I get my roof inspected?

If your roof has noticeable damage — such as missing shingles, leaks, storm damage, or visible wear — it’s best to schedule an inspection right away. For roofs that are 10+ years old, a yearly roof inspection is a smart way to catch small issues early, monitor aging materials, and help protect your home from more expensive problems down the road.

Can Exterior Techs meet with my insurance adjuster?

Yes! We highly recommend having us present when your insurance adjuster inspects the roof. Storm damage can be easy to miss, and having a trusted roofing professional there helps make sure visible damage is pointed out, questions are answered, and the condition of your roof is clearly documented. While we cannot guarantee claim approval, we can help you feel more informed and prepared throughout the process.
